  • The heating and cooling systems in a Volvo, Kenworth, and Peterbilt truck are very complex. Just ask any repair person, or in many cases, the driver and they’ll tell you that there’s a lot of trouble-shooting that goes on prior to finding the reason for failures. Of course, the moment the drips or puddles are sighted under the truck, we immediately envision the high cost of repairs. But, don’t despair. There’s some variance among the opinion of the experts, but we’re finding that around 80% of the source of the leaks are discovered in the tubes and hoses. Happily, these are the simpler and less costly resolutions.

  • Every once in a while you might see a vintage sign in the window of a very well established business saying “Air Conditioned”. Sure we chuckle at those now, but back when they were being created and posted, air conditioning might have been the difference between having lunch at one restaurant or another. These days, the sweet relief of cool air is far more taken for granted that it’ll be there when we need it. When you’re confined to the cab of the Kenworth, Peterbilt, Mack, or Freightliner there are only two options if the AC goes out. Two-fifty AC (2 windows and 50 mph) or see Radiator Pros about a new AC Compressor.

  • Heavy duty is sometimes truly in the eye of the beholder. An excavator is sure to be considered heavy duty equipment by anyone and is used for the really big jobs. However, sometimes you need equipment that is capable of getting around in smaller places where the path is narrow or the overhead lower. That’s when we rely on dynamite in small packages in the form of fork lifts, loaders and skidsteers.

The business of freight and public transportation has always been closely related; from the view of the manufacturers, that is. The Freightliner over the road semi-truck and the Thomas bus has an association similarly to the way that International Navistar is related to the Blue Bird bus. But, did you know that Kenworth also played a huge role in the production of public transit and school buses beginning in 1926? It was a stepping stone for the company and they were rather well known for this innovation in moving the masses in safety and comfort. The line changed hands thirty years later however, when Kenworth turned their focus to their well-known, class 8 semi-truck so it’s unlikely that you’ve seen one of their buses running down the road recently.

A Polar Vortex? This has been the newest word trend as so much of the USA and Canada experiences low temperatures and high snow falls that we’ve not seen for the last couple winter seasons. However, meteorologists assure us that the term Polar Vortex has been around for as long as people have been studying and forecasting weather. Still, it does seem to be an odd time to discuss A/C Condensers when so much of North America will have mountains of snow still melting in May and June. But rest assured, this is not the time to ignore the A/C components on your Peterbilt, Freightliner, International, and other heavy duty over the road trucks.

Building on our Education and Experience through NARSA

One phrase you hear repeatedly in heat exchangers is “industry standards”. It’s important to know what they are in order to know what customers expect of the heavy duty radiators, charge air coolers, and oil coolers they purchase. And, what’s the best way to keep in the know?
